Robot Vacuum vs. Robot Mop: How to Choose

iRobot Roomba® is one of the most popular robot vacuum cleaners on the market, so we wanted to determine which Roomba product was best for a given home. The great news is that there are dozens of iRobot Roomba® products available. To help you narrow down the selection, we put together this quiz and created a few additional resources to help you find the right Roomba.

    Who Should Use a Roomba?

For the most part, a Roomba is ideal for households with carpets, large areas that have floor-to-wall contact, and dogs. If you like your floors mopped, you might not need a Roomba, but if you like vacuuming, you’ll love the freedom of a Roomba. There are a few different configurations for a Roomba:

Hovering Roomba: The Roomba series models have rotors similar to floor mopping mops.

    Robot Vacuum

iRobot’s flagship robot vacuum is the Roomba 980 ($699), an impressive suction machine that offers multi-directional suction on both carpet and hard surfaces.

If you don’t mind walking over the floors to clean them, the iRobot Roomba 960 ($699) offers the best value. Not only does it have a slightly larger bin and more powerful motor, but it also has higher suction and comes with an easy-to-clean dust-collector strip. If you’re not picky about having a light on when it’s cleaning, the iRobot Roomba 960 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner with Facial Cleaning System is a great choice for a middle-of-the-road budget cleaner.

If you're looking for the least expensive robotic vacuum that works almost as well, the iRobot Roomba E85 is just $230.

    Robot Mop

We’ve also got a robot mop, called the Three Spin Robot mop. A little smaller than an upright mop, but still one that vacuums your floors. Don’t let the name fool you, though, as this robot mop can sweep your floors as well as sweep a pile of poop off your lawn. Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. Has it ever occurred to you that all your cleaning needs are taken care of by your vacuum cleaner? If it hasn’t, you are in for a rude awakening. Humans are good at picking up dirt, dead skin and other things people just don’t want to deal with. But we’re poor at cleaning the actual floor of the home where people spend most of their time. A room full of furniture and other objects can be hard to dust.
